A Bad Penny Always Comes Back
On December 6, 2006 "A Bad Penny Always
Comes Back" author
Glen Mitchell was interviewed on Take Five hosted by Catherine
Behrendt and Stephanie Webb, weekdays at 4:30pm on WZZM
13,
Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Glen is reading his book at two Grand
Rapids schools on December 7, 2006. Grand Rapids has a large
Dutch community so there will likely be considerable interest
in Glen's book.
During the Second World War, the people
of Holland were starving. Near the end of the war in 1945,
a brave crew of Royal Canadian Air Force men, led by Windsor
pilot Bob Upcott, flew to Holland in their Lancaster "Bad
Penny," and "bombed" the
fields of Holland with food so the people could eat. As in
the old saying, "... like a bad penny, it keeps coming
back," Bad Penny always returned from her missions.
A boy named Peter was one of the many Dutch children saved
by Bad Penny and her crew.
